Former Capital Radio and Xfm DJ hired by station for morning show as rockstar moves to 9pm until 1am on weeknights
Planet Rock listeners will no longer be waking up with Alice Cooper after the digital radio station hired Absolute Radio DJ Lucio Buffone to presents its first live breakfast show.
Cooper's syndicated US show has occupied the Planet Rock breakfast slot since 2006. His show will move from the morning to a new "Nights with Alice" slot every weeknight from 9pm until 1am.
Buffone, who previously presented on Capital Radio, Xfm and Birmingham rock station Kerrang!, where he won a Sony gold award, will take over the show on 17 January next year.
With a playlist including Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana, Biffy Clyro and the Kings of Leon, Buffone promised the "antithesis to JLS, Simon Cowell and painful mornings".
Buffone will continue with his Friday night Absolute 80s show on Absolute Radio, but will call time on his presenting duties on its weekend breakfast show because of his other presenting commitments.
He promised a mixture of contemporary, classic and soft rock on the new show. "We love Slayer but we won't be playing it at breakfast," he said. He described the tone of the new show as "positive realism"? "we are going to be positive, but in a realistic way".
Planet Rock, which is owned by Malcolm Bluemel and airs online, on digital TV and on national digital audio broadcasting (DAB) operator Digital One, has an average weekly audience of 783,000 listeners.
