The Guardian teams up with Glyndebourne this summer

Wagner's only comic opera, Die Meistersinger von Nrnberg, to be streamed live in its entirety on 26 June

The Guardian will become the first news organisation to live stream a complete opera this summer, when it teams up with Glyndebourne to broadcast the last night of sell-out production Die Meistersinger von Nrnberg via guardian.co.uk and glyndebourne.com.

The new production by David McVicar of Wagner's only comic opera will be available for free on 26 June, and for the following seven days. The Guardian will team up with Glyndebourne once again later in the summer on 21 August, when Jonathan Kent's acclaimed production of Britten's Turn of the Screw will be streamed live on guardian.co.uk.

For an opera house that has had a reputation for its exclusivity ? many productions sell out before they even go on sale to the public ? Glyndebourne has in recent years made huge efforts to make its operas accessible to a wider audience. In 2010 it screened three of its productions in Picturehouse Cinemas, an ongoing partnership, and this year will screen three productions at the Science Museum cinema in London. David Pickard, general girector of Glyndebourne, said: "This will take us a step closer to realising our vision to create a digital Glyndebourne that is open to opera lovers at any time, anywhere in the world."
