Starbucks Card eGift continues digital payment assault via Facebook and email

StarbucksStarbucks is attempting to revolutionize the way we pay for our coffee in the US, and now that includes gifting coffee too. The Seattle-based company has launched an electronic gift card they call the 'Starbucks Card eGift,' which allows you to buy someone a coffee or three, via email or Facebook. Senders select an amount between $5 and $100 depending on how many coffees you need to buy, and can pay for it via PayPal or with a credit card. Taking the e-card idea and running with it, Starbucks allows you to choose from a plethora of designs to suite any occasion, and fire off that card via email or through Facebook. Even advanced purchase and auto-delivery is possible, making sure you don't miss that crucial someone's birthday. While this isn't the first time Starbucks has experimented with Facebook coffee buying, this marks a shift to open up the eGift system to a wider audience through email.

Starbucks Card eGift recipients have several choices of how to utilize the cash sum. They can either print it out for in-store renumeration, add the balance to an existing Starbucks Card, or transfer the card to the Starbucks Card iPhone app -- a simple and quick solution for any Starbucks addict.

So next time you're stuck for a gift, need to pay someone back, or want to introduce someone to the Starbucks way, going electronic isn't a bad idea.
