Zomby: Dedication ? review

(4AD)

The second album from genre-blurring dance producer Zomby ? his identity is a closely guarded secret ? could be the soundtrack to a moody, futuristic ghost film. The rave sounds that dominated his high-octane debut still linger, alongside video game bleeps and pulsating bass, but the atmosphere of Dedication is downbeat and terrifically eerie. Lead single "Natalia's Song", a homage to another reclusive London producer, Burial, is a highlight and Panda Bear's guest vocal on "Things Fall Apart" will raise the album's profile, but each track, however brief (and several fall under the one-minute mark), merits close attention. Together, they work spookily well.

Rating: 4/5
