Actor to be jailed for 120 days and complete 480 hours of community service
Actor Lindsay Lohan has been sentenced to 120 days in jail for violating her probation in a case involving the theft of a necklace. It will be her fourth jail stint.
Lohan, 24, was earlier ordered by a Los Angeles judge to stand trial in June on a reduced misdemeanor charge of stealing a $2,500 necklace in January.
Lohan was sentenced to 120 days in a US county jail, according to reports.
Gossip website TMZ said Lohan was also ordered to complete 480 hours of community service, with 360 hours of these to be performed at a women's centre.
The remaining 120 hours will be served at the LA County morgue.
Los Angeles Superior Court judge Stephanie Sautner said that the Mean Girls star should have called the store and notified the owners about the necklace sooner, it was reported.
Instead she waited several weeks and returned the necklace after finding out the cops were about to raid her house.
Lohan's lawyer said she would immediately appeal, which means she will be able to post bail.
Judge Sautner had ordered Lohan to stand trial on 3 June.
"I am going to give her an opportunity. I'm going to reduce this case ? to a misdemeanor," Sautner said.
Lohan, pleaded not guilty to walking out of the shop without paying for the necklace.
She was originally charged with a more serious count of felony grand theft and had faced a prison term of up to three years if convicted.
